Since winter break is quickly approaching, it’s time to start thinking about decorating your classroom for the holiday season. You don’t have to spend a lot of money to transform your classroom into a holiday delight. With a bit of work and a few supplies, you can add some holiday cheer for kids to enjoy. Use these easy, DIY decorating ideas to make kids feel like celebrating the season.
1. Holiday Starry, Snowflake Sky
All you’ll need is some pipe cleaners and some string to create a holiday starry, snowflake sky. Use gold pipe cleaners to make stars in the sky, and twist together white and blue pipe cleaners to make snowflakes. Hang them from the ceiling with some string and they’ll add some enchanting dimension and depth to your classroom’s holiday décor.
2. Build a Snowman
“In the winter we can build a snowman!” Decorate your classroom door with a 3-D snowman composed of styrofoam cups. Start with some butcher paper cut into the shape of the snowman’s sections, glue on form cups, and then add the accessories. Use construction paper or pom pons for the buttons, mouth, nose, eyes, and top hat, and add a real scarf. Bring in a couple branches to make the snowman’s arms and you have a snowman to greet kids as they come into the classroom.
3. Enchanted Christmas Forest
For this decoration idea, simply head out to the playground or to your back yard to find some branches. Take the branches and coat them with some gold glitter paint. Once they dry, arrange them in buckets or vases filled with some fluff balls or biodegradable packing peanuts so it looks like snow. Arrange them around the room to create your own enchanted Christmas forest.
4. Gingerbread House Décor
Another fun idea for your classroom door is to turn it into a gingerbread house. You can do this on the inside or outside of the classroom. Start with brown kraft paper to create the shape of the house, leaving your door as the door of the house. Cut out circles of construction paper to make hard candies and gumdrops to add the house, and make some candy canes and lollipops to add as well. You can add a paper wreath to the gingerbread house door, and a nice window will add a little depth to the design. Have fun with it.
5. Lighted Village Bulletin Board
Make your bulletin board extra special by turning it into a lighted village. You can even have your kids help with this project. Let kids use glue, crayons, and some construction paper to create 3D homes. Add them to a bulletin board decorated to be a winter background. Add some white LED lights and you’ll have a beautiful, lighted winter wonderland.
